Since 1981, FASE has been at the forefront of international efforts to evaluate the use of a detoxification program developed by L. Ron Hubbard to treat health effects resulting from occupational and environmental chemical exposures. This work has been widely reported, and papers resulting from research projects in the U.S., Europe and Russia have been published by organizations including the World Health Organization, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Because of this work, the Foundation began receiving calls from union officials and rescue workers in New York within weeks of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center regarding the possible value of detoxification for those exposed to toxins during the rescue effort. Foundation staff and associates have played an ongoing role in the response to these calls, and the resulting establishment of the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project.
